Steampunk Jewelry
Of all the other steampunk endeavors, such as steampunk clothing and other artistic mediums, the one that really takes talent is steampunk jewelry making. Whether the steampunk jewelry was handmade or bought in a store or online, the wearer probably has something truly unique. And that is one of the tenets of steampunk—no two pieces of anything you wear has to be the same as someone else. In fact, the most unique pieces of jewelry—rather flashy or small and intricate—can be classified as steampunk. Really, no one can make or set the rules for steampunk jewelry; however, there are some things to keep in mind when either buying or making your own.
One of the biggest crowd pleasures to steampunk jewelry and the ensuing culture is the earring. A steampunk earring can be large or small, metallic, colorful or even gaudy. Some people believe that the steampunk earring should be made of vintage pieces, say out of an old vintage pocket watch or gears from an old clock or musical box. Unlike most jewelry, however, steampunk jewelry shows the gears, springs and other bits and pieces that are usually hidden. The motive behind this method is to simultaneously make the watch look both futuristic and vintage.
Another category of steampunk jewelry is the necklace. Imagine if you will a medallion like necklace, intricate and metallic. However, upon closer look, it is made up of several parts. First, the main part of the necklace is one large clock gear, with notches all the way around. On top of that, there are some smaller gearings and even some burnished flowers. The chain connectors are small clock springs and the clasp is two interlocking rigs from the inside of an old music box. Perhaps there’s even an inscription or message from the Victorian era. You see, the necklace is as unique in appearance as it is creative, with pieces from the past combined to give a look of the present. This is just one simple example of steampunk jewelry.

Until then, however, there will always be a crowd of steampunk jewelry lovers. The ideas are also becoming more mainstream and popular among upper-, middle- and lower-classes of society. The look can be stylish for the young and old alike. Though older folks may not want to walk around with a lot of piercings, they can sport steampunk jewelry through the spirit of certain designs, such as rings, watches and hat pins attached to a steampunk vintage hat. The style of steampunk jewelry, too, goes great with almost any outfit, especially a night out on the town. Some steampunk jewelry is made for casual, everyday wear while other pieces are created for a certain outfit or look (or party). The trends of steampunk jewelry are growing and it is possible to buy, make, and even sell your achievements on the Internet.
